The people of Chile were divided when Pinochet came into power. Some saw him as a hero, saving them from a matrix leader, while others saw him as the end of democracy. This would be seen through multiple primary sources that either supported him or fear what he was doing. This would lead to multiple protests throughout the country that centered around what Pinochet did during his time in power. This news article was written by L. A time by William R Long highlights one of these protests between the people and the government.
This news article was written in 1992 and it shows a group of people protesting the human rights violations that happen during Pinochet’s rule. The article talks about the violent clash between the people and the police causing multiple people to be injured. The articles also highlight the terrorist attack that killed three police officers that were caused by an extreme leftist group. This protest highlights the lasting effects the coup had on its people. Even after Pinochet stepped down from power, people are still marching and demanding justice for what happened.
