This source is about Blanca Ester Valders, a mother, and mayor of Osorno Chile. This source tells us the point of view of Blanca Ester Valders a struggling mother with little money to feed her family and who is stuck in poverty for most of her life. One day she meets someone from Allende political party and offers Blanca a position in their party. Blanca continues to work with the socialist party and is made into a news story of a struggling mother living in harsh and unfair work conditions. The president of Chile Allende, make Blanca the mayor of Osorno and she helps to rebuild and improve the town until the cope of 1973. The coupe would lead to the military looking for any supporters of Allende and executing them along with anyone who resisted the new government. Blanca would be thrown off the river along with her husband to their death however, Blanca would live and escape the new government. She would be forced to leave her children behind and go into hiding.
This primary source would come from Journalist Politzer, Patrica and would collect many primary sources that show the experience of living in the dictatorship of Chile. The purpose was to show firsthand stories of the people and see what it was really like during that time. Blanca’s story shows us the reader the horrors of the new government that took over and hunted down people who were against their power. This source relates to my project by shedding light on the people of Chile and giving us a different point of view on the situation.
