This source comes from the L, A times newspaper, and it highlights the events that are happening in Chile during the coupe. The newspaper shows interviews with the people and explains the adduction of the supporters of Allende. This piece of work highlights what events were happening at that time and shows what type of coverage was happening. The point of this news article was to show the fear the Chilean people faced under Pino[1]chet’s government. During this time, many people who supported Allende were forced to go into hiding since they were being hunted down by the Chilean army. Many of these people would be forced[2] into prisons, either to be tortured or killed. The people of Chile were in fear of what to come next for their nation. These La times News articles cover what was going on in Chile while it was happening. In Montalbano, William D’s article for the L. A times, Montabano gathers the thought of the Chilean people. “At night we are frightened; they could come for you’d never know why”[1] Montalbano is able to demonstrate how dire the situation is when quoting the people’s experiences living under the regime. As a writer for the L. A times, he does a great job of getting the reader’s attention by highlighting these stories. These L. A times’ articles have its place when examining the larger picture of the 1973 Chile Coup. These News articles allow us to see how the Chile coup was being seen outside of the country. This shows us what outside coverage looks like during that time and allows us to see the coup in the eyes of the media.
