This is a speech from President Salvador Allende, the socialist leader of Chile that won the 1973 election in Chile. This would be the last speech he would give before he ended his own life. With his last moment in the capital of Chile, President Allende would broadcast one final statement to the nation. Allende thanked the people who supported him and encourage them to stand up for themselves. Allende would later say that he has faith in the future of Chile and that they will overcome this dark period. This is a great source to add to my paper because it involves one of the main figures of the 1973 coupe. This speech would be a reminder of what happened on that day.
This audio log is important to the overall history of Chile because it showed what the democratic elective president of Chile believed in. This broadcast would mark the end of democracy in Chile and mark the start of Pinochet’s new government.
