The CIA would have an involvement in what happened with Chile in 1973. However, their involvement would be kept hidden for many years. After the coup happen in Chile, many people questioned who was behind it. This would lead to the United States being questioned if they played a role In Chile. This article highlights the time when the public information of the U.S. involvement was still. Hidden. This article looks at the president of that time Nixon, denying the CIA’s involvement in Chile.
Nixon would claim that he knew nothing about the CIA supporting a coup in Chile. He would state that members of the Chile congress were the ones trying to cease Allende from acquiring power and not the United States government. This article shows Nixon defending the CIA by saying that CIA involvement was not true. The main argument of this article was to highlight Nixon’s argument and question if his statement were true. This fits in the overall history of Chile by showing how one of the key players in the coup was denying everything.
